This is a technique that involves inflating molted glass into a bubble using a blowpipe. The artists are called gaffers. The earliest evidence of the activity comes from Iran, as far back as 2,000 BC. Matthew Cummings’ rustic studio at 133 S. Central in the Old City is a fantastic place where you can watch the art made in front of you. Wonderful place, stop by in your next visit to Knoxville. JM
